about Black and Proud
Words on Wounds
For its 4th edition, Noir et fier (Black and Proud) aims to use words to heal the ills that plague our societies.
As we know, Black communities have been the victims of many ills for many generations. Keeping them quiet doesn't help us to make the right connections for a better life together. That's why we believe it's necessary, through art, to vocalize the ills that haunt us in order to move forward as a society towards healing.
1st Edition: 2022
Black and Proud
This first edition of Black and Proud is an initiative of Wilgis Agossa.
In February 2022, Wilgis Agossa presents an exhibition of his photographs, images of black people from several ethno-cultural communities, in the Théâtre Cercle Molière Lobby. It's an unprecedented opportunity to come together to celebrate Black pride and cultures in Manitoba's Francophone community.
2nd Edition: 2023
Métissages:
Weaving Dual Identities
The second edition of Black and Proud is ambitious. In February 2024, a conference, sharing circles, a play reading and even SLAM join the exhibition as part of the programming to enrich the month and bring our communities together. This initiative is part of Black History Month, which is an opportunity to educate, raise awareness and come together to celebrate Black communities in Canada. The theme invites us to look beyond colour and embrace multiple cultural identities.
3rd Edition: 2024
Together
For the third consecutive year, Black and Proud is back. The theme, Together, is inspired in part by the theme of Théâtre Cercle Molière's 2023-2024 season, Dialogue. In 2023, Black and Proud is offering audiences new opportunities to meet and engage in dialogue, including reimagined school programming, a movie afternoon, a broadcast of the African Cup of Nations, and the first-ever Black and Proud Gala at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
